Why this is relevant to your question is the fact TW's game changes also apply to campaigns (you can get a version for Dark Crusade easily, Soulstorm one is a bit trickier due to some dispute on ModDB).
It adds lots of new units and even factions, though the scale of battles is a bit smaller than UO - for instance, UO lets you build multiple types of titans, where TW only has one per each side (if I am not mistaken). I think over time Unification will prove to be the go to Soulstorm mod, but play what you want.There is a mod called Titanium Wars which is a bit like UO.
Since Cylarne has already lost another team, I'd say its more his fault then theirs. They're the ones who provided the newer models and effects in UA, not the other way around. The team who worked on this worked on UA and a majority of the race mods out there. Cylarne is just going to get a new team, pilfer assets from them, piss them off and then release a half assed version once they leave. My overall reason for being invested in Unification is that at least this mod looks like it will be updated. And who knows when the next version of UA will come out, Cylarne said there would be a release in July of 2020 and we didn't hear anything until February 2021. UA has basically been the same mod since 1.85 and hasn't had any significant change since then, still has bugs, and missing descriptions. An Admech rework is already announced and they'll be doing more for the mod races. A team that is more responsive and has plans to improve and expand this mod, and gives consistent update about the state of the mod, and how much progress is being done.
